About Us

We are a small studio in South Central Pennsylvania specializing in hand dyed wools.
After discovering a well worn, and loved hooked rug in the attic of my Great Grandmother's farmhouse, I was hooked (literally). My journey started with a kit purchased from the original Woolrich store over 25 years ago, and I have been hooking ever since.
Today, I am active with several local guilds. I teach, provide patterns, hand dyed wools and other supplies.....and I hook pertinaciously.
The name comes from our first love, our dogs. They have also been a grand journey, but that is another story.

Sustainability

There's a good chance your shipment will arrive in a recycled mailer. One, it helps keeps costs down. Two, it reduces waste. We are doing what we can to reduce landfil waste. Wool scraps generated in our studio are reused in a variety of fashions.

The Wool

Unless noted otherwise, your hand dyed wool is over Dorr. When we use textures, we source those from a variety of sources and it will be noted in the wool's description. A few things to note:

  • A FULL FAT QUARTER is 13-14" wide by approx 36" long (accounting for some shrinkage).

  • Washing and shrinkage is part of the dying process. Some wools will shrink more than others. This can't be helped. The benefit...it is ready to hook when it arrives at your door.

  • Wool color can vary by computer monitor.

  • Each piece of hand dyed wool is unique. Color and pattern can very slightly from one batch to another. If you need a large amount of a single color, please let us know.

  • We dye in half yard lots (for the most part). If you order a half yard and a quarter yard of the same color, it will come in two pieces. If you need a single (wider than a 1/2 yard) piece you must notify us in advance.

  • Dyeing wool is not an exact science. Water, air temperature, dye lots, pixie dust; these can all effect how a batch will turn out. That is also part of the magic.

Returns

In the event that you are unhappy with your wool, please contact us at spottedcurwool@gmail.com. We want you to be happy with our wool, and we will do what we reasonably can to make you happy. If a return is the only option, you will pay the return postage. We are small, and striving to keep costs low for everyone.
